2024 Fall Semester: September 16, 2024 – January 27, 2025
Parent Observation Week: January 21 – January 27, 2025

Join our semester-long Youth Program for toddlers to teens of all levels and experiences. With our curriculum, students progress through each level as they gain physical skills, spatial awareness, musicality, and an understanding of the Taylor style of modern dance.

Dancers, ages 14–18, who want to follow a preprofessional track with performing opportunities can audition to join the Taylor Teen Ensemble.

Taylor Tots

(Ages 2–3 with caregiver)

At this age, the focus is primarily on the joy of movement. Through rhythm games, songs, and creative movement young children, accompanied by a parent or caregiver, learn the fundamentals of dance in a shared classroom experience.

 

Saturday from 9:15-10:00 a.m.

Session 1 (7 Weeks): September 21 – November 9
Session 2 (7 Weeks): November 16 – January 18

$200/session for returning students | $220/session for new students

Taylor Level 1

(Ages 4–5)

Through creative movement games, Level 1 students discover their innate love for movement in a nurturing environment. With a primary focus on expression of their individual voice, basic dance exercises are introduced to build the early foundations of technique.

Wednesday from 4:00–5:00 p.m.
Friday from 4:00-5:00 p.m.
Saturday from 9:30–10:30 a.m.

Taylor Level 2

(Ages 6-7)

Students in Level 2 focus on increasing strength, flexibility, and coordination by learning Paul Taylor’s movement vocabulary and incorporating it into their own creative movement explorations. They are further challenged to refine complex dance movements and retain longer choreographic phrases.

Tuesday from 4:00–5:00 p.m.
Thursday from 4:00–5:00 p.m.
Saturday from 10:30–11:30 a.m.

Taylor Level 3

(Ages 8-9)

Students are further challenged to refine complex dance movements and retain longer phrases. They are introduced to more technical elements of modern dance floor work and Mr. Taylor’s choreographic style while encouraged to make individual creative movement choices as beginning dance makers.

Thursday from 5:00–6:00 p.m.
Saturday from 11:00-12:00 p.m.

Taylor Level 4

(Ages 10-12)

This level is geared towards middle schoolers. Students are taught longer choreographic phrases, that are more complex both physically and rhythmically. More formalized dance vocabulary and exercises are practiced, preparing students to be able recognize and execute basic modern dance technique. At this age more than one class per week is highly recommended.

Wednesday from 5:00–6:15 p.m.
Saturday from 12:00-1:30 pm (This is a combined Taylor Level 4/5 class)

Taylor Teen

(Ages 13–18)

This class for high school students offers pre-professional level modern dance training, encouraging artistic expression and the emergence of the individual artistic voice. Taylor repertory is practiced and analyzed to develop greater refinement and nuance. Students are encouraged to take greater artistic risks.

TAYLOR LEVEL 5
(No prior dance experience necessary)

Tuesday from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m.
Saturday from 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. (This is a combined Taylor Level 4/5 class)

ADVANCE TAYLOR TEEN
(Students must have taken Taylor Teen or equivalent experience)

Monday from 6:00–7:30 p.m.
Thursday from 5:00-6:30 p.m.
Saturday from 11:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m.

Ballet for Modern Dancers

(Ages 7–18)

This class is designed for students who want to study ballet to enhance their modern dance training. Taking Ballet for Modern Dancers in addition to Taylor Modern classes is highly encouraged.

Wednesday from 5:00–6:00 p.m. — Level 2/3 (Ages 7-9)
Wednesday from 6:00–7:15 p.m. — Teens (Ages 14-18)

Level 2/3:
$420/semester for returning students  |  $445/semester for new students

Teens:
$445/semester for returning students  |  $470/semester for new students

Breaking Basics with Lars Kong

(Ages 8–14)

Lars offers a fun and safe space for first-timers who want to take a step into the art of breaking. Students will be given basic techniques, drills, exercises, history, and the cultural background of the art and music of breaking along with methods of preventing harm to the body ensuring a safe and fun class.

Tuesday from 5:00–6:00 p.m. — Breaking Basics (Ages 8-14)

Tumbling Basics

(Ages 4-18)

In this class students will explore inverted movements such as forward rolls, cartwheeling, handstands etc., will learn basic partnering skills, and will explore choreography through prompts, both on their own and in collaboration with others. Students will learn body awareness and control as well as how to support and be supported by their classmates.

Monday from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. – Level 3/4 (9-12)
Monday from 6:15 – 7:30 p.m. – Teens (13-18)

Taylor Teen Ensemble

(By Audition Only)

The Taylor Teen Ensemble offers teenagers an opportunity to learn more about Mr. Taylor’s work through the performance of excerpts of his diverse repertory.
