LICENSING

Bringing Taylor repertoire to companies and institutions worldwide.

For over fifty years, Paul Taylor Licensing has allowed dance companies and dance departments in universities and schools to experience the work of the choreographic master. Directed by Taylor alumnus Richard Chen See, our licensing projects are facilitated by a professional stager and provide a comprehensive collection of reconstruction and educational materials to support the complete process from studio to stage.

Professional Companies

To delight their audiences and challenge their dancers, professional companies around the world have licensed the masterworks of Paul Taylor. The singularity of Mr. Taylor’s work lies in how it grows and lives on in the performances of exceptional professional dancers and companies. Our esteemed team of stagers, designers, and production managers guide the setting of each dance. Recent and active licenses of Mr. Taylor’s dances include American Ballet Theatre, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, San Francisco Ballet, Miami City Ballet, Ballett am Rhein, Vienna State Ballet, and Queensland Ballet.

Educational Institutions

More than 100 colleges and universities have staged productions of Paul Taylor’s dances, challenging the students and young artists to meet the technical facility and artistic maturity required by the works. The selection of dances appropriate to the institution and its student body is carefully negotiated, as is pairing with one of our stagers/educators. Universities and conservatories that have licensed full works of Mr. Taylor have produced many of today’s professional dancers, artistic directors, and arts managers who carry the dances they performed into their visions of dance for today. These storied centers of learning include The Juilliard School, ABT Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School, The Ailey School, NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Butler University, New Zealand School of Dance, and London Contemporary Dance School.

We license a considerable volume of Taylor repertoire to companies and educational institutions around the world. Some of our most requested dances are:

3 Epitaphs (1956); Airs (1978); Arden Court (1981); Aureole (1962); Black Tuesday (2001); Brandenburgs (1988); Cloven Kingdom (1976); Company B (1991); Esplanade (1975); Le Sacre du Printemps (The Rehearsal) (1980); Mercuric Tidings (1982); Piazzolla Caldera (1997); Promethean Fire (2002); Roses (1985); Runes (1975); Speaking in Tongues (1988); Sunset (1983); and many more…
