THE SORCERER’S SOFA

Opus Number: 93
Music: Paul Dukas
Set and Costumes: Santo Loquasto
Lighting: Jennifer Tipton
Date First Performed: November 2, 1989

Notes: “Sofa shows Taylor squeezing a scene from life in order to extract the comic juices. The dance is a send-up of psychiatric analysis, in which a hapless analysand seeks to cure his fear of women with the help of a hirsute phrenologist and the phrenologist’s sidekick, a sofa. Mayhem ensues during the course of treatment, as the analysand, the doctor, and the sofa confront “the Devil Within,” a red bogyman with multiple dangling boobies.” – Dance Magazine
